Ocean

Objective

- To study the role of the gulf of Guinea on the dynamics of African monsoon by the intermediary of the ocean-atmosphere interactions and the retroactive effects of the ITCZ;

- To document the variability of oceanic movement in the gulf of Guinea (assessments of heat and salinity, transport by the oceanic currents).

Strategy

The follow-up on several seasonal cycles of the surface and sub-surface conditions in the Gulf of Guinea is one of the principal scientific motivations of the EGEE project, oceanographic branch of AMMA. This project lies in the realization of two oceanographic ventures a year in two opposite seasons for a period of three years (2004-2006, to be centred on the SOP of 2005 and for three successive years on the duration of the program of AMMA), in order to better dissociate the seasonal aspect from the inter-annual measured variability.
