Analisis Multidiciplinar de los Monzones Africanos
Analyses Multidisciplinaires de la Mousson Africaine

Aims

(1)    To improve our understanding of the West African Monsoon and its influence on the physical, chemical and
         biological environment regionally and globally.

(2)    To provide the underpinning science that relates climate variability to issues of health, water resources and
food security  for West African nations and defining relevant monitoring strategies.

Approach

To achieve these aims a multidisciplinary approach to the study of the WAM is required involving substantial international collaboration. AMMA will link observations, data analysis and modeling on a wide range of space and time scales. The project will address the following interacting science areas: Monsoon dynamics and scale interactions, continental water cycle, aerosols, atmospheric chemistry, food, water and health.
AMMA is planned to be a multi-year project and will involve 3 observing periods:The Long term Observing Period (LOP), The Enhanced Observing Period (EOP) and The Special Observing Period (SOP).
